Motion budgets for marketing sites

Cinematic pacing without punishing LCP — a practical framework.

7 min read

Scroll-driven storytelling is a performance feature. Every scene competes with hero media, fonts, and third-party tags for the same main-thread budget. We storyboard beats first, then assign millisecond envelopes per section.

GSAP timelines should declare reduced-motion alternatives at authoring time — not as a retrofit. The same discipline applies to WebGL layers: progressive enhancement is part of the estimate.

If leadership wants spectacle, we translate that into measurable tradeoffs: which metrics move, what guardrails protect conversion, and how editors update content without breaking choreography.
